Our imprisoned leaders are being treated inhumanely: BNP
Politics

The BNP today alleged that the party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas and other senior leaders are being treated inhumanely.

The party alleged that the imprisoned leaders are being locked up for almost 24 hours and tortured mentally, which is a clear violation of human rights and the constitution.

Syed Emran Saleh Prince, organising secretary of the party and also acting office secretary, made the allegations at a press conference at party's Nayapaltan headquarters.

He said many of the senior leaders are suffering from diseases including high blood pressure and diabetes and they were taking treatment home and abroad for quite a long time.

Quoting family members, Prince said as they are imprisoned, they are being deprived of proper treatment.

He said many of the imprisoned leaders deserved division in the jail but they were yet to get that.

"Our imprisoned leaders are being victims of inhumane behaviour. They deserve bail but they are denied again and again. Many of them are elderly and ill but still not getting bail," he said.

The party demanded unconditional and immediate release of the party's imprisoned leaders and activists.
