Ariful Islam (Cumilla) Correspondent:
The land in Nagerkandi stand area of
Muradnagar-Homna Regional Highway of Comilla's Muradnagar Upazila and the land
on both sides of the township and Zilla Parishad roads are constantly going
into the hands of illegal encroachers. A gang is grabbing lakhs of rupees by
renting and selling these lands as the alleged owners and building shops. Due
to this, the government is depriving the government of lakhs of rupees by
expropriating the land.
Sources who do not want to reveal their names say that the encroachers are continuing this occupation business by managing some dishonest officials in the road and township department and the district council.
According to local sources, several illegal structures on both sides of the Muradnagar-Homna regional road in Nagerkandi area were vacated earlier in order to protect government property and ease traffic congestion, but after several months, the place was occupied again. The gang constructed at least 30 shop houses and started extorting lakhs of rupees in the name of rent and sale by allotting them.
Md. Humayun Kabir, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Comilla Roads and Public Paths Directorate, said, "Earlier, we have evicted several illegal structures. Apart from the Swaz department, there is also the place of Zilla Parishad. We are short on manpower. Can't keep so much surveillance. However, as soon as we come to know about the encroachment, we will give notice. If the structures are not removed, legal action will be taken.
In this regard, Muradnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer
Alauddin Bhuiyan Jani said, "If the issue of illegally occupying the site
and constructing the structure is correct, a surveyor will be sent there and
measured." If there are roads and public roads and Zilla Parishad premises
they will also be informed. Later we will give notice to the occupiers as per
the instructions of the District Commissioner. If the structure is not removed,
eviction proceedings will be conducted.
