In Dumuria area of Kerankhal Union of Chandina Upazila, in Cumilla miscreants destroyed 48 percent of a farmer's cucumber field in the crop field. It is believed that the farmer has lost more than 4 lakh taka.
On Sunday night, it can be seen that 48 percent of the land created by the farmer is covered with flowers and fruits. Sometime at night, miscreants uprooted all the trees on that land. Farmer Tapas Sarkar and his wife Krishani Lipi Rani Sarkar were disoriented when they went to the land on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the affected farmer Tapas Sarkar filed a written complaint at Chandina police station on Sunday However, the police have not yet identified who is involved in the incident.
Affected farmer Tapas Sarkar said - Currently, the family is suffering from hunger in the vegetable market by taking loans from NGOs and selling their cows to grow cucumbers on 48 percent of the land. They work tirelessly for one and a half months with their wife and college going son. They worked till 10 pm on Saturday and went home. The next day at 6 in the morning, he went to the land and saw that someone had removed all the trees. Saying these words, the farmer and his wife burst into tears.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Morshed Alam said, I know about the incident. This is a very sad and despicable act. Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Kiran Rani visited the spot. He will get full support from us.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station Sahabuddin Khan said - I heard the incident. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
In this regard, Chandina Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tapas Sheel said, I am not aware of the matter. Necessary steps are taken through the Agriculture Officer.
