Helper dies in sleep after bus torched in Demra

A youth was burnt to death and another injured while sleeping as miscreants set fire to a bus in Dhaka early Sunday.

The incident took place at around 3:00am in Deila area under Demra Police Station of the capital.

The deceased was identified as Nazim, 18, who was the assistant of the bus driver and the injured is Rabiul Islam, 25.

Quoting witnesses, police said the man was sleeping inside the bus of Wasim Paribahan while it was set to fire.

"It was learned that Nazim was a driver’s assistant of the bus. The vehicle was parked on the roadside and the driver and his assistant were sleeping inside it and, at one point, the bus was set on fire by some miscreants early Sunday," said Mohammad Jahirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Demra Police Station.

The injured driver is undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery with 17 percent burn injury, the OC said

Being informed, fire-fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame, said Ashraful Halim, on-duty officer of Fire Service headquarters.

They also recovered the body and handed it over to police, he added.
