Fours buses set on fire by BNP supporters in Matuail

BNP men allegedly set fours buses on fire during clashes between party men and law enforcers in Matuail area of Dhaka on Saturday.

A bus of Swades Paribahan was set on fire in the morning. However, no one was injured as bus was parked beside the road and empty at the time. On information police rushed to the spot with a water canon and tried to douse the blaze.

But during the clash that ensued around 11.30am, several persons, including police members were injured as BNP men tried to sit-in there.

BNP men alleged that police attacked them while they were trying to hold their programme peacefully.

Denying the allegation SM Mehedi Hasan, a joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said they requested BNP activists to observe their programme peacefully but they attacked the law enforcers, leaving several injured.

Sources said during the chase and counter chase law enforcement charged baton and fired teargas at the protesters to disperse the crowd.

Later, three buses were torched by unknown persons.

Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, said on information, two fire fighting units rushed there.
