Fascist-controlled media is suppressing the truth: Fakhrul
Politics

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said fascist-controlled media is suppressing the truth in the country.

"The pervasive fascist-controlled media is suppressing the truth. Over the past 15 years, they have been perpetuating this narrative," Mirza Fakhrul said while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on Monday (14 August).

"Without democracy, free media is not possible. The foremost necessity is to unite people. The international community is saying that there is no democracy in Bangladesh, no elections. Therefore, now it is necessary for people to march on the path of unity, with courage, for the rights of democracy," he added.

Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of the BNP's standing committee, stated, "The government instils fear in the media to maintain control. BNP will work to restore journalists' rights in the future."

Speaking at the event, BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said, "BNP stands as a shield to protect democracy. We must assemble to safeguard the rights of media workers."

During the event, among others, journalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol, who was jailed under the DSA and the daughter of the slain journalist from Jamalpur, Golam Rabbani, spoke at the event.
