A court in Narayanganj sentenced Nur Hossain, a death-row convict in seven murders case in the district, to life term imprisonment in the arms case.
Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge (Second) Sabina Yasmin pronounced the verdict in presence of Nur Hossain.
District and Sessions Judge Additional PP Adv Md Salah Uddin Sweet said the court handed down the verdict in the 2014 arms case based on evidence.
Earlier this morning, Nur Hossain was brought to the court from Kashimpur jail amid tight security ahead of the verdict.
On April 27, 2014, seven people, including NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker, were abducted from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.
Their bodies were,later, found floating in the Shitalakshya River.
Following the incident, Nazrul’s widow Selina Islam Beauty filed a case against six people while Chandan’s son-in-law filed another case.
On January 16, 2017, Narayanganj court found 35 people, including Nur and 25 ex-RAB officials, guilty of abduction and murder of the seven people and sentenced them to death.
On August 22 of the same year, the High Court upheld the death sentence of 15 convicts, including Nur and three Rapid Action Battalion officials, and commuted the penalty of 11 others to life imprisonment in the two cases filed over the murders.
