Five persons in Mymensingh's Trishal have been sentenced for life for their crimes against humanity during the Liberation war in 1971.
The three-member International Criminal Tribunal, headed by the chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam announced the verdict on Monday after the charges brought against the convicts were proven.
The convicts are Md Harmuz Ali, Md Abdus Sattar, Khandkar Golam Rabbani, Khandaker Golam Sabbir Ahmed and Md Fakhruzzaman. Sabbir and Fakhruzzaman are fugitives. The other three convicts were present in court when the verdict was pronounced.
On 19 May, 2015, Rahima Khatun, the wife of martyred freedom fighter Abdur Rahman of Mymensingh's Trishal filed a case against three. Later, a total of eight people have been made accused in the case on charge of arson, looting, abduction, detention, torture and murder during the war.
