Court of law

The Supreme Court's Chamber Judge has  granted ad-interim bail to BNP leader Aman Ullah Aman wife Sabera Aman, who was earlier sent to jail by a Dhaka court in a case filed over acquiring wealth beyond known income source.

The court fixed January 15, 2024, for next hearing of the case.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Chamber judge of the Appellate Division, passed the bail order on Tuesday considering Sabera Aman's heath condition.

Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon was in the court on behalf of the petitioner.

As Sabera Aman is a cancer patient, the court granted her bail petition till January 15.

Judge of Dhaka Special Judge Court-1 Abul Kashem on September 3 passed an order to send Aman's wife to jail in the case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on March 6, 2007, filed the case with city's Kafrul Police Station against Aman Ullah Aman and his wife Sabera Aman.

On June 21, 2007, a court sentenced Aman to 13 years imprisonment and his wife to three years jail in the case. Later, they filed an appeal challenging the lower court order.

On August 16, 2010, the High Court acquitted them.

The anti-graft body submitted a petition to the Appellate Division challenging the HC order.

On May 26, 2014, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court asked the High Court to re-hear the petition.

On May 30, the High Court upheld the lower court order that had sentenced Aman to 13 years jail and his wife Sabera to three years.

It also asked them to surrender before the court within 15 days of getting the text of the verdict.
