At least 10 people, including police, were injured after clashes erupted between Daffodil International University students and locals in Savar's Ashulia union on Monday.
The incident took place at around 7:30pm on Monday in Ashulia's Gauripur and Kumkumari area.
Students and locals said that the clash started when a Daffodil International University student locked into an altercation with the locals following a collision between his motorcycle and a human hauler in Gauripur's Battala area.
The human hauler driver later called other drivers in the area, and another clash took place between the groups.
Later, the student went to the Daffodil International University campus in the Dattapara area and informed the other students about the matter.
Hundreds of students came together and vandalized more than 100 shops in the Gauripur and Kumkumari areas.
Three of the injured students have been admitted to the Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, sources at the university administration said. The students are Md Tahmid, Md Siam and Md Maheed.
Officers from Ashulia police station and Savar Model police station went to the spot after being informed and brought the situation under control at around 9:30pm.
Daffodil International University Proctor Sheikh Muhammad Aliyar said the police brought the situation under control with the help of the university administration. “Injured students are being treated.”
Meanwhile, Savar Model police station OC said two of their officers were injured in the clash.
“We have managed to bring the situation under control.”
