A workshop titled "Media's Role in Combating Youth Addiction through Social Media" took place at the National Institute of Mass-Communication  on a Wednesday morning. The event drew various media professionals, with Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, a prominent media personality, serving as the primary trainer, and PBI Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Abu Yusuf as the discussant.

During the workshop, speakers emphasized the prevalence of social media in our modern lives, noting that 70% of internet users worldwide are connected through social media, a figure that rises to around 90% among young people. They highlighted the potential benefits of social media for learning but also raised concerns about its negative impact on the youth's intellectual development, with excessive internet usage and smartphone addiction being key issues.

Participants stressed the importance of maintaining ethical behavior and avoiding immoral activities in the name of entertainment. The workshop underlined the vital role that media can play in raising mass awareness and shaping public opinion on this matter.

The workshop was presided over by NIMC Director General Nurun Nahar Hena, with NIMC Director Dr. Maruf Nawaz leading the proceedings. Among others
