Dhaka metro rail authorities have suspended the services for two hours on Sunday to avert accident as doused sky lanterns fell on the overhead electricity wires.
An official of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) said a huge number of doused sky lanterns were found stuck on the electrical wires of the metro rail in Mirpur area. For this, they are bound to keep the train stopped there.
The incident happened as the Dhaka residents welcomed New Year through fireworks and sky lanterns.
MAN Siddique, managing director of DMTCL, said the train movement resumed after two hours as the sky lanterns were removed from the wires.
The movement of the trains had been stopped to avoid accidents.
