The letter of US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu to the three major political parties will not affect the announcement of the election schedule, Election Commission (EC) Secretary Jahangir Alam on Tuesday said.
The EC Secretary said, “The commission is not aware of whether the letter calls for dialogue or not. Because, the letter did not come to the commission.”
Jahangir Alam came up with the statement while speaking to reporters at his office at the election commission secretariat at Agargaon in the capital.
Reporters wanted to know whether Donald Lu's letter would have any effect on the announcement of the schedule. In response, the EC secretary said, “No.”
He further said, “The Commission will proceed according to the announced roadmap in accordance with constitutional obligations.”
