Teenager killed in AL factional clash in Laxmipur

A teenage boy was killed and four others were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over a land dispute at Raipr upazila in Laxmipur district on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at Char Kachia village under Dakshin Char Bangsi union in the upazila at around 11 am.

Deceased Rassel, 14, was son of Monir Hossain Bhuttu, a resident of the village. He was a nephew of UP member Nazrul Islam.

According to local sources, Char Bangsi union AL general secretary Shahjalal Rahul and UP member Nazrul Islam had been at loggerheads over a piece of land for a long time.

As a sequel to that, Babul, uncle of the deceased, locked into an altercation with a member of Rahul group this morning. At one stage, he attacked Babul with sharp weapon. When Rassel tried to save his uncle, one Rakib stabbed Rassel on his stomach, leaving him critically injured.

Family members rushed him to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital where the on duty doctor declared him dead.

Raipur Police Station officer-in-charge said being informed, police detained five persons from the scene in connection with incident.

A case was filed with the police station against them and legal steps are under process, the OC added.
