Main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) started its 7th divisional mass rally in Sylhet city on Saturday.
The party leaders, workers and supporters from Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sylhet are coming by trains as transport owners are observing strike.
The rally, which was scheduled to begin at 2pm, is being held at the Government Aleya Madrasa ground.
Sylhet city has turned into a city of procession.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reached Sylhet around 10 pm on Friday night.
A total of 19 check-posts have been installed at the entry points of Sylhet city and hundreds of plainclothes policemen are performing their duties to maintain the law and order situation.
BNP has been holding rallies in the divisional cities demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia, protesting the price hike of essentials and fuel oils, seeking handing over power to a neutral caretaker government.
BNP also held divisional rallies in Chattogram, Mymensingh, Khulna, Rangpur, Barishal and Faridpur.
