Sayeedi's 'mysterious death' raises questions: Rizvi
Politics

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said there are some doubts surrounding the death of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.

Speaking at an event in BNP's Jinjira office in the capital, Rizvi questioned the timing of Sayeedi's death, pointing out that it occurred on the eve of 15 August.

"Why did his passing occur just the day before 15 August? The fact that the same doctors who supported his execution were responsible for treating Sayeedi raises questions. Doesn't this ring an alarm? Isn't it quite mysterious?" he questioned.

During his address, Rizvi also hinted at suspicions surrounding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's health, suggesting that her food might have been laced when she was imprisoned.

"How can a woman who went to jail in a healthy state suddenly fall critically ill? People are now doubting if the government mixed anything in her food while she was in prison."

Regarding a recent statement by the prime minister where she claimed there is an ongoing conspiracy to remove her from power, Rizvi defended the people's legitimate and democratic right to challenge the government's authority.

"Who would conspire against you [prime minister]? It is the people's responsibility to determine whom they want to retain or remove from power. In fact, you have incarcerated individuals, inhibiting their participation in fair elections."

Concluding his speech as chief guest of the event, organised by the Dhaka District BNP sending best wishes for Khaleda's well-being, Rizvi hoped for her health and led the attendees in a collective prayer for a just and final resolution.

Following the event, Rizvi participated in distributing leaflets in the Keraniganj area, urging the release of Khaleda Zia, under the initiative of the Dhaka District BNP.

Dhaka District BNP President Khandaker Abu Ashfaq, General Secretary Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Special Assistant to BNP Chairperson Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, and other leaders of the party were present at the time.
