Police-BNP clash in N'ganj: Cops among 50 hurt

Several BNP men and three police members were injured during clash between the parties in Narayanganj's Araihazarupazila on Tuesday.

The clash incident took place around 8:30am on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway's Panchrukhi area.

Narayanganj senior assistant police super Abir Hossain said the condition of constable Nurul is critical as he was stabbed on his head severely. Inspector Humayun Kabir's left hand has been broken down after protesters beat him up mercilessly and stabbed his right hand. 

Meanwhile, ASI Motin was also injured after being hit by stick and brick bats. Nurul was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while two others at a private hospital in Rupganj.

Around 8:30am, the opposition BNP brought out a procession, led by central assistant secretary of BNP international affairs Nazrul Islam Azad, and blocked the highway for some. They also burnt tyre. Then police tried to remove them from the highway that led to the clash, said police, quoting the witnesses.

Nazrul Islam alleged that police and Awami League members attacked them.

"We will stay on roads till 72 hours to make the blockade a success," he added.
