Nine shops burnt down in Noakhali

Nine shops were gutted in a fire at Sonaimuri in Noakhali. The affected businessmen claim that there has been a loss of about half a million taka.

The fire incident occurred at Pitambapur market of Deoti union of the upazila around 2:15 am on Sunday. On receiving the information, a unit of Sonaimuri Fire Service tried to control the fire for two hours. 

According to local sources, there are about 200-250 shops in Pitambarpur market. On Sunday night, the traders closed their shops and went home. Around 2 o'clock in the night, people around saw a fire burning in a shop in the market. Meanwhile, the fire spread. In this, 9 shops including two pharmacies, a tea shop, a confectionery shop, a grocery shop, a fertilizer shop, and a salon shop were burnt to ashes.

Sonaimuri Fire Service Station Officer Md. Rakibul Islam said that the fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit in a shop in the market. It was possible to bring the fire under control after trying for two hours. About 5 lakhs of taka have been damaged in this fire.
