City

Passengers will have to pay Tk5 for every kilometre travelled via the country's first-ever metro rail.

Besides, the minimum fare has been set at Tk20, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced while addressing the press after inaugurating the Metrorail Exhibition and Information Centre in Diabari, Uttara on Tuesday.

The establishment will allow the netizens to familiarise themselves with how the metro rail operates and its functions, added Quader.

Freedom fighters, people with special needs and students will be able to enter for free by showing their IDs while others will have to pay Tk10 to visit the centre.

As per the fixed fare rate, an MRT-06 ride (from Uttara to Agargaon), expected to be opened for use in December, will cost Tk60.

Whereas, the entire 20.1km one-way travel from Uttara to Motijheel will cost Tk100.

The minister said, "Injured freedom fighters will be able to travel on the metro train for free.

"Also, those who are especially challenged will be charged less."
