A pedestrian was killed when a passenger bus overturned on the Dhaka-Mymensingh road near Banani Cemetery in the capital.
The incident took place around 5:30am on Wednesday, Gulshan Traffic Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police Mostafizur Rahman confirmed.
The deceased was identified as Ranju Sheikh, 35. He worked as a security guard in a building.
Witnesses said the bus was moving at a very reckless speed when the accident took place.
The bus was seized but the driver managed to escape.
Mostafizur Rahman said: “The duty of the members of the traffic department started at 6am. The incident took place before that. We have learned from locals that the incident took place at around 5.30am.
The body of Ranju Sheikh was recovered and sent to the morgue of Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, said Banani police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Azam Mia.
