Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that Khaleda Zia is out of jail on humanitarian grounds and her sentence has not ended.

He said this while attending the golden jubilee and the first reunion of the Alumni Association of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall of Dhaka University on Friday (March 10) morning.

The minister said court will decide whether Khaleda Zia would participate in the election or do politics depends.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said Sheikh Hasina works to improve people's fate while BNP loots country's money. Because of it, people have rejected them.

Regarding the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections, he said, DU is an autonomous institution. So, it is their responsibility to conduct DUCSU elections. Awami League doesn't interfere here. Rather, it is the failure of the university administration not to hold elections regularly.

Quader said alumni association is not a political organisation. "We don't want to do politics everywhere. Some places should be kept outside of politics. The character of an alumni should be non-political. Such programmes should be kept above politics. Former residential students of the halls will take part in such programmes. They all will gossip, eat together, and recall the memories of old golden days.

With alumni association president Professor Dr M Nizamul Huq Bhuiyan in the chair, the function was also attended by Dhaka University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Aktaruzzaman, former chairman of University Grants Commission Professor Abdul Mannan, Mujibul Huq Chunnu, MP, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, DU Pro-VC Professor Dr Muhammad Samad, treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, and Sanmilito Sangskritik Jote president Golam Quddus.

A cultural programme was held following the inauguration programme of the alumni association.
