Jamaat leader Motiur Rahman sent to jail hours after arrest

A court in Dhaka on Wednesday sent Jamaat-e-Islami central committee's publicity secretary Adv Motiur Rahman Akand to jail in a sabotage case.

Earlier this morning, Motiur Rahman was picked up from his residence in Uttara sector 14 in the capital.

Around 1:20pm, he was produced before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim showing him arrest in the sabotage case. At that time, the case investigation officer SI Shahidul Islam pleaded for keeping him inside the bars till the investigation is over.

After hearing on the petition, the Magistrate passed the order.

According to the case statement, on October 11, 2022, some Jamaat-Shibir men staged demonstration on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway protesting arrest of nine of their party men. When police tried to remove them, they threw brick bats to police and exploded cocktails. They also attack on police with sticks. To rpotect themselves, police also fired bullets. Then the activists fled the scene.

A case was filed with Uttara West Police Station in this regard.
