Former mayor of Gazipur city corporation Md Jahangir Alam has submitted his nomination paper for mayor post to take part in upcoming city corporation polls, which is scheduled to be held on May 25.
He submitted his nomination paper at Returning officer’s office in Gazipur city on Thursday. He also submitted the nomination paper of his mother Zaeda Khatun at the same time.
Earlier, Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate Azmat Ullah Khan submitted his nomination paper 12noon while independent candidate Sarker Sahnur Islam at 11.00am and Islami Andolon Bangladesh-nominated candidate Gazi Ataur Rahman at 1.00pm.
Nine mayoral candidates submitted their nomination papers till 1:30 pm on Thursday.
The nomination papers will be scrutinized on April 30 while the candidates could withdraw their candidatures by May 8.
The election symbols will be distributed among the candidates on May 9.
