The Cox's Bazar-bound tourist express train has been stranded in the Sholashahar area of Chittagong city due to waterlogging due to continuous rain. The train got stranded at around 12:40 pm on Tuesday (July 7). It is learnt that the train could not depart for Cox's Bazar even at 3:15 pm.

According to railway sources, the train started its journey from Dhaka's Kamalapur railway station to Cox's Bazar at 6:15 am today. It passed through Chittagong's Sholashahar station at 12:35 pm. After going some distance, the train got stuck.

Station master Nezam Uddin said that train services have been suspended due to waterlogging on the railway line. There are about 1,000 passengers on the stranded tourist express.

The station master said that the Cox's Bazar-bound Probal Express train had passed through the area at around 6:30 am and said that there was no problem then. However, due to heavy rain, water started accumulating on the railway line. This stopped train services.

Railway officials said that the tourist express train was scheduled to reach Cox's Bazar at 2:40 pm. In the meantime, that time has passed. After the water on the railway line recedes, the train will leave for Cox's Bazar again.

Meanwhile, 330.8 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in Chittagong in the last 24 hours due to continuous heavy rains. Due to the effect of heavy rains and tides, vast low-lying areas of the city have been submerged in water, creating terrible waterlogging. This has caused extreme suffering to the city residents.
