Coast Guard has seized
a large quantity of Indian saree cloth and cosmetics smuggled in duty evasion
in the area adjacent to Bhuighar under Fatulla police station of Narayanganj
district.
Lieutenant Commander
Khandaker Munif Taki, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, gave this
information on Tuesday afternoon.
He said that on
Tuesday 28 November 2023 at approximately 0130 hours, a special operation was
conducted by Bangladesh Coast Guard Dhaka Zone BCG Station Pagla under the
leadership of Station Commander Lieutenant Ruhan Manjur in the area adjacent to
Bhuighar under Fatulla Thana of Narayanganj district. In the operation, when
the movement of 1 truck loaded with sand from Sylhet to Dhaka was suspicious, a
coast guard member gave a signal to stop in the area adjacent to Kanchpur
Bridge. Realizing the presence of the Coast Guard, the truck drivers and
illegal traders ignored the signal and moved forward. After that, when the
Coast Guard members chased the truck, the truck driver and the illegal trader
quickly fled after stopping the truck in the area adjacent to Bhuighar under
Fatulla police station. Later, the truck was searched and 2608 pieces of
sarees, 1343 pieces of chador and 12048 pieces of skin bright cream illegally
imported from India were seized by evading customs duty in a fancy way hidden
under the sand.
He further said that the seized sarees, cosmetics and trucks were handed over to Fatulla police station for further legal action.
