At least five people have been killed and one remained missing in landslides triggered by the torrential rain for the last few days in Bandarban district.
The deceased were --- Sandha Rani Shil, 20, and Bulu Shil of Bandarban Sardar upazila, Fongsa Marma, 60, Monpay Mrro, 30, of Naikhongchhari Upazila, Md Musa, 22, of Nayapara Union of Alikadam Upazila. Meanwhile, a woman named Chayarani Tanchanga, 37, still missing after the landslide and two injured were admitted to a hospital during the period.
At least seven upazilas, including the Bandarban town, have been submerged by flood waters due to the incessant rain.
Besides, road communication of Bandarban district with other parts of the country, including Dhaka, remained suspended for the last couple of days as all the roads were submerged due to the incessant rainfall, said Sanjay Sen, Manager of Purabi Bus Service. He said the communication would be restored within evening.
Meanwhile, the power supply in the district remained suspended since Monday following the closure of the a power sub-station amid the flood situation.
On Tuesday afternoon, the district administration had demonstrated the overall situation of the flood affected Bandarban.
Shah Mozahid Uddin, deputy commissioner of Bandarban, said already 207 temporary shelters have been opened as the two-third portion of the district town were inundated, rendering 300 people marooned.
Already 85 metric tonnes of food and Tk 100,000 have been allocated while 43 medical teams are working in the flood-hit areas.
