In Hatia Union of Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram District during the Great War of Liberation, Pak Army and their allies brutally killed 697 innocent people in the early hours of November 13, 1971. Since then this day is celebrated locally as Hatia Day.

On Monday morning, Hatia Genocide Commemoration Day Observance Committee organized a wreath-laying ceremony and a discussion and prayer ceremony at Shaheed Minar in Antapur.

Kurigram-3 Constituency MP Professor MA Matin, Upazila Parishad Chairman Virmuktijoddha Golam Hossain Montu, Upazila Executive Officer Ataur Rahman, Awami League President Principal Ahsan Habib Rana, Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mortuza, Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad former commander Golam Mostafa, Hatia were present along with UP Chairman Shaikhul Islam Naya and others.
