A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced five people to death in a case filed over murder of Monira Pervin, who was beaten to death by her in-laws for dowry only three days after her marriage.
Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 Judge Mafroja Pervin passed the verdict in presence of the five convicts.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 1 lakh each. The court, however, acquitted Nasir Hossain as the charges framed against him were not proved.

The next day, Nasir brought Monira to his home. As soon as they entered the house, the convicts started beating her with cricket bat and stamps.
Later, they left Monira to a nearby field unconscious. Locals took the injured Monira to Ashiyan City Medical College Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, Monira was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on June 22 morning.
