Anika Tabassum. She is a fifth year student of the Department of Dentistry at National Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
On the other hand, his brother is a 2nd year student at a local college. They planned to travel to somewhere else with their friends at the year-end for picnic. But, they became worried about money which will be required to travel. At one stage, Anika planned to loot the money from her maternal grandfather Mansur Ahmed's house. She then shared her plan with her boyfriend Raju. Accordingly, Raju mobilised his friends to commit the crime. As part of their plan, they waited for empty of Mansur Ahmed's house.
On the day of occurence, all the inmates of the house went to attend a wedding ceremony. At that time, Mansur Ahmed was alone at the house. Taking advantage, Anika's friends went to her grandpa's house to commit robbery. As they got obstructed, they killed the grandpa and fled the house with cash and jewelries.
Launching investigation to the murder of Mansur Ahmed, the Lalbagh Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) of police found the sensational information. Mansur Ahmed was the president of Baitun Noor Khaj-e-Dewan Mosque of Chakbazar in the capital.
Then police arrested five persons including main planner Anika Tabassum in connection with the murder.
It was stated by DMP joint commissioner Biplob Bijoy Basak at a press conference held at Minto Road in the capital on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday night, the suspects were arrested from Chandpur and Munshiganj districts. The arrested were slain Mansur Ahmed's grandson Shahadat Mubin Alvi, 20, grand-daughter and mastermind Anika Tabassum, 23, Anika's boyfriend Raju, 22, their associates Raihan, 20 and Sayeed, 20.
Biplob Bijoy Basak told at the press conference that "it was an incident of the degradation of family or social values. It was a planned murder. The victim's grandchildren were directly involved in the murder. The grand-daughter was the mastermind. One of them studies at a dental college, while the other is a college student."
The DMP joint commissioner said, "They made a plan to go outside of Dhaka along with their friends once their examinations are over. Because of it, they needed money. They planned to take money from grand-father. Because of it, the victim's grand-daughter had planned the incident with her boyfriend. They planned to commit the robbery one month before the incident. The mastermind Anika and her boyfriend Raju were waiting for a better time. In order to commit the robbery, Anika's boyfriend Raju hired his brother and several friends. Before the incident, Anika managed a duplicate key which she supplied to his boyfriend later on."
Police said Anika handed over the key to her boyfriend Raju at night of the incident. As per their plan, they entered the house first and tried to push an injection to the body of elderly man. When he resisted them, there was a hustle and bustle. Then they assaulted him tying up his hands and legs. Then they looted whatever there were in the house. They fled with Tk 93,000 in cash and gold jewelries from the house.
After examining the CCTV footage and digital proofs, the police officials first arrested Anika, then her brother Talha and then Raju. Under intensive interrogation, they also disclosed several other names. Then the rest were arrested. All the arrested persons confessed their involvement in the incident. They also narrated how they had committed the crime. Police arrested them conducting raids at Chandpur and Munshiganj on Tuesday night.
Besides, those who pushed the injection to the body of elderly man, were also arrested.
