Petition seek extension of jail sentence of Adilur, Elan

The state has filed an appeal to the High Court seeking extension of the jail sentence of the Human Rights organisation Odhikar's secretary Adilur Rahman Khan and director ASM Nasiruddin Elan in a ICT case.

Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi, lawyer of the state, confirmed this on Saturday morning.

He said as per Attorney General AM Amin's direction, the state filled the petition.

On September 14, a cyber tribunal in Dhaka sentenced Adilur and Elan to two years in jail in a case filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each. They were sent to jail after the verdict.

Later on September 25, they filed an appeal seeking bail with the High Court in the case.
