Eight sent to hospital after collapse of BCL stage at DU

At least, eight persons including Awami League presidium member Dr Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, were injured and bruised when a stage built for Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)'s 75th founding anniversary on Dhaka University campus collapsed.

The incident took place at Aparajeyo Bangla on DU campus.

They were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday afternoon.

Witnesses said the stage collapsed when Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader was delivering his speech at about 4:10pm.

The injured Awami League leaders and workers were Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad president Dr Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, former general secretary of Dhaka City South BCL Sheikh Anisuzzaman Rana, Dhaka City South BCL member Md Jasim Uddin, Jubo Mohila League's general secretary Sharmin Sultana Lily, and Bangabandhu Hall Chhatra League general secretary Rafiqul Islam Badhon. Two others were Sabrina Chowdhury and Javed. Their party identities are yet to be known.

Confirming that matter, DMCH Police Camp in-charge Inspector Bacchu Mia said doctors found cuts and bruises on different parts of their bodies. Seven returned home after receiving treatment, while Sharmin Sultana Lily is undergoing treatment.
