Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student front of ruling Awami League, has dissolved its committee at Chattogram University.

The BCL made the declaration a press release signed by its Central President Saddam Hussain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of BCL, it said.

The BCL also published the news on its verified page at around 3.50pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, two factions of CU unit BCL --- Choose Friends with Care (CFC) and ‘69’—locked into clashes at Abdur Rab Hall of university on Sunday noon over their previous enmity.

Choose Friends with Care (CFC), loyal to deputy education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel, and the faction ‘69’, loyal to former mayor of Chattogram City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin.

Brandishing sharp weapons and sticks, leaders and activists of both groups chased and counter-chased each other and threw brick bats for half an hour, triggering a tensed situation on the campus.

University proctorial body in association with the law enforcers, however, brought the situation under control .

Campus sources said that at least four people were injured as the BCL two factions locked into clashes on CU campus at 4:30pm on Thursday and last for an hour.

They said the CFC controls the Shah Amanat Hall of the university while the 69 controls the adjacent Shahjalal Hall.

At around 5pm on the day, leaders and activists of both factions, carrying sticks, machetes and brick chips, were seen positioned in front the respective halls. The clashes left one from 69 and three from CFG faction injured.

At least 40 people are seen wielding sharpen weapons during the clash between two factions. After the interference of CU proctorial body and police, the clashes ended.

But on Friday evening, clashes broke out among the two factions once again centering to welcome the deputy education minister Nawfel at a Hindu community temple at Hathazari in the afternoon.

During that time, CU BCL president Rezaul Haq Rubel and his followers cashed the actives of Bijoy group and forced them to leave the campus. In last two days, the both groups locked into clashes for several times, the sources added. 

Following the incident, on Saturday afternoon CU BCL present Rezaul with his followers and Joint secretary Mohammad Elius with his followers staged a showdown on the campus with sharp weapons.

A tensed situation has been prevailing on the campus since then.

Meanwhile, the CU correspondent of Bangla daily Prothom Alo was injured after being attacked allegedly by activists of the university's BCL unit on Sunday, following the publication of a report about a BCL factional clash.

The injured, Mosharrof Shah, a student of communication and journalism department of CU, was given treatment at the university's medical centre and then referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for better treatment.

Party insiders however said the central BCL might have took the decision to dissolve the CU unit BCL committee in this connection.
