Shahab Uddin said Bangladesh hopes the COP-28 UAE must deliver positive
outcome. He said operationalization of the Loss and Damage fund and the funding
arrangements, agreement on the framework for the global goal on adaptation,
strengthen 2030 mitigation targets to align with the 1.5ᴼC temperature goal; and scale
up finance for LDCs to implement NAP and NDCs are to be ensured in COP-28.
Apart from the UAE Government, we hope the Government of the UK will also play
a very active role in bringing together all countries to deliver the way
forward and demonstrate solidarity on climate action.
Environment Minister said this while Matt Cannel, the
British Deputy High Commissioner, Dhaka called on his in the conference room of
the Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.
Addressing the UK Government as one of the trusted friends
of Bangladesh in the fight against climate change, the Environment Minister
said Bangladesh under the able leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister H.E.
Sheikh Hasina is pursuing a low-carbon green development in its journey towards
sustainable development. The Minister said Bangladesh requires international
cooperation in implementation of NAP, NDC, MCCP and in Energy transition,
conservation of Biodiversity, Wetlands and Forest.
Matt Cannel, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Dhaka said, climate actions including
operationalization of the Loss and Damage fund are our mutual priorities. He
said current UK government is strongly committed in Climate Actions. Mutual
cooperation between these two countries will be stronger following
Bangladesh-UK climate accord.
Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Environment) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Additional Secretary(Deveopment) Dr. Fahmida Khanom, Anna Ballance (Climate and Environment Adviser) and Marjan Nur (Policy Manager) of British High Commission were also present in the meeting.
