BUET student Fardin Noor Parash was not murdered, rather he committed suicide, said the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday (December 14, 2022).

Addressing a press briefing at his office in the capital on Wednesday evening, Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) Harun-ar-Rashid said

talking with Fardin's close relatives, friends and forensic experts, and analysing the postmortem report and surroundings, police reached the conclusion that Fardin was not murdered, rather, he had committed suicide.

However, it is not clear why he had committed suicide, the DB chief added.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday said it received sensational information in connection with the case filed after Fardin's death. The elite force convened a press conference at Kawran Bazar Media Centre of RAB at 7:30pm on Wednesday.

Fardin, a third-year student in BUET's Civil Engineering Department, went missing on  November 5 last. His father Noor Uddin filed a general diary with Rampura Police Station right on that day. Two days after he went missing, Fardin's body was recovered by Naval Police from the Shitalakkhya river at about 6:00pm on November 7. Then the forensic expert who conducted postmortem of Fardin's body said marks of injury were found on the body of the deceased.

At midnight on November 9, Fardin's father filed a murder case at Rampura Police Station mentioning the name of an accused and showing others as unnamed. Police arrested Fardin's girl friend Bushra in connection with the case and sent her to court showing arrested. Later, the court placed her on a five-day remand.

The law enforcers disclosed different information about Fardin's death at different times. At one stage, they said that a juvenile gang was involved in his murder. Besides, he was involved in dealing with drugs though his family said Fardin had never touched a cigarette in his life.
