The members of Bangladesh Army were seen patrolling the Padma Bridge to maintain law and order in the bridge area.

They were seen patrolling the bridge on Monday to enforce the government decision of banning motorcycles.

Rashedul Amin, assistant director of Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) Directorate, termed the patrolling as per their regular duty.

Pedestrians were also banned from moving on foot on Padma Bridge alongside the motorcycles, he said.

Earlier on Sunday, the Bridges Division banned motorcycles on the bridge until further notice from 6am on Monday.

The decision was taken following the pressure of motorcycles and two people being killed in a crash on the first day of the bridge’s opening.

In protest of the ban on motorcycles, a group of motorcyclists barricaded the approach road near Mawa toll plaza around 2pm on Monday.

The members of Bangladesh Army later dispersed the protesters.
