5-day Eid holiday begins, Dhaka roads almost empty

A five-day Eid-ul-Fitr vacation began from Wednesday as the Eid is likely to be celebrated on April 22 or 23 based on the appearance of the moon.

Earlier, the government declared April 20 (Thursday) as general holiday. Tuesday was the last working for the government officials and employees.

The government employees will get five days of Eid vacation from April 19-23. But the public holiday is likely to be extended one more day on April 24 if the Ramadan ends in 30 days.  


Consequently, the government employees will enjoy a six day Eid vacation till April 24.

Already, Dhaka roads are found almost empty. There is no rush and police signals.

Only home-bound passengers' rush towards Gabtoli, Mohakhali, Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Gulistan and Sadarghat.

Traffic may increase in the afternoon as people will come out for shopping, said traffic policemen. They were found passing leisure time as few vehicles are on the streets.
