A speeding lorry truck claimed three lives on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram district on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred at around 7.30am in Wireless BSCIC area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Alamgir Hossain, 45, son of Abul Kalam, Shafiqul Islam, 42, son of Malek Bepari, both hailed from Sujanagar upazila in Pabna district; and Masud Mia, 35, son of Humayun Kabir, from Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria district. They all were working under Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited.
According to witnesses, a speeding lorry truck rammed the trio when they along with others were going to their worksplace on foot beside the highway, leaving two dead on the spot and two others critically injured.
The injured were taken to Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex where another succumbed to his injuries.
Jorarganj Highway Police Station in-charge Sohel Sarkar said being informed, police recovered the bodies and seized the truck from the spot, however, its driver managed to flee the scene.
The bodies will be handed over to the family after taking legal actions and process to file a case in this regard, the police official added.
