Sylhet Divisional Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Abu Ahmad Siddiqui NDC said that sports are one of the ways to develop physical strength and mental thinking and intelligence. Sports alone play an effective role in healthy body building, proper personality development and mental development. Today's children hold the key to a better Bangladesh. Therefore, besides giving utmost importance to the development of children's intellect and mind, they should also be attracted to sports and cultural activities. Only then will the child develop patriotism, duty, open mind and intelligence.

He said the above words in the opening ceremony of the Sylhet Departmental Inter-Institutional Annual Sports and Cultural Competition-2024 organized by the Directorate of Social Services at Shishu Parivar Field in Bagbari, Sylhet city on Tuesday (13 February) at 10 am.

Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russel Hasan presided over the event as a special guest. Bangladesh Awami League presidium member and Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council executive member Syeda Zebunnesha Haque, Bangladesh Awami League Sylhet Metropolitan Branch President Masuk Uddin Ahmad were present as special guests.

Assistant Manager of Government Disability Training Center Sylhet. Lutfur Rahman and Regional Training Center Sylhet Lecturer Mirza Nijuara jointly conducted the welcome speech at the beginning of the program by Sylhet Divisional Social Service Office Director (Acting) Mohammad Shahidul Islam.

Earlier, Chief Guest Sylhet Divisional Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Abu Ahmad Siddiqui inaugurated the day-long sports competition by hoisting the NDC national flag and balloons. Later, a beautiful display was held by the students. At the beginning of the program, Ainul Islam, a seventh grade student of Government Children's Family (Boy) Bagbari Sylhet recited the Holy Quran. Holy Gita recited by Kanika Rani Das, class XI student of Shishu Parivar (Girl) Rayanagar.

The prize distribution ceremony of the day-long annual sports and cultural competition 2024 was held at 3 pm. Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Zakir Hossain Khan PPM was present as the chief guest.

Chairman of Sylhet Zilla Parishad and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Sylhet District Branch Nasir Uddin Khan Advocate, Deputy Director of Divisional Fisheries Department Anwar Hossain, prominent women leader Salma Bachit spoke as special guests on the occasion under the chairmanship of Sylhet Divisional Social Service Office Director (Acting) Mohammad Shahidul Islam. , former deputy director of Sylhet district social service office, freedom fighter Abul Kalam.
