A security guard was stabbed to death as he barred an unknown youth from entering the house in the capital's West Agargaon.
The incident took place at about 3am.
The deceased was Dewan Azim, 60. He hailed from Tangail. He was the security guard of a residential building named 'Miah Tower' in the area.
Critically injured Azim was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead around 4:30am.
Imam Hossain, owner of the house, said a youth tried to enter the building forcefully around 3am. But Azim barred him from entering. At one stage of scuffle, the youth hacked Azim and fled the scene.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Bachchu Miah.
