Selling of hilsa fishes started today (Saturday) in the market after a 22-day ban on fishing, according to media reports.
Fishermen started netting from Friday midnight. So, consumers are getting available fishes from this morning. Both sellers and buyers are expressing happiness for selling the fishes after a long gap.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the country will see a record number of hilsa production this year as mother hilsa released huge eggs during the restriction and tropical cyclone “Sitrang”.
Since strong current occurred in the rivers, salinity of the water decreased and excess rainfall occurred due to Sitrang, mother hilsa came to fresh water and released eggs. As a result, the production of hilsa fishes will rise this year, officials said.
