Around 500 employees of a readymade garment took to the street in Arambagh area under Motijheel Police Station in the city on Tuesday protesting over shifting their workplace to Keraniganj from the area.
They alleged that the authorities closed the factory and shifted the garment to Dakkhinkhan without any official notice. They also alleged that the factory was closed without paying their dues.
The workers came to their workplace at 8am and saw the closure notice which made them anger. They then started protest and sit-in in Arambagh and Kamalapur intersections.
Vehicular movement came to a halt, causing huge tailback in Shapla Chattar, Fakirapool intersection, Arambagh, Dainik Bangla, Paltan and Kakrail areas.
Confirming the matter, Motijheel Police Station OC Yasir Arafat said, "The workers also alleged that the authorities did not pay their salaries for some months. They are protesting for the dues too. We are trying to take the situation under our control."
