Prices of rice, lentil, flour, edible oil and sugar increased in the capital’s kitchen markets while onion, garlic, ginger, egg and chicken prices marked a fall on Friday.

Traders said ample supply has reduced the prices of some essential items, including vegetables, after a higher trend in the last three weeks. But, import dependent essentials’ prices have increased further in the market.

Medium-quality rice price has increased by 3.70 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 54-58 per kg while packet atta price increased by 2.33 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 62-70 per kg, according to Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).

The price of loose soybean oil increased by 5.80 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 180-185 per litre, price of 5-litre bottle of soybean oil increased by 3.14 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 880-925 and price of one-litre bottle of soybean oil increased by 2.74 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 185-190.

Medium grain lentil price increased by 4.08 percent in a week and was sold at Tk 125-130 per kg while small grain lentil price increased by 3.77 percent in a week and was sold at 135-140 per kg.

Onion price has declined to Tk 50 per kg from Tk 60 in a week while garlic price declined to Tk 70-90 per kg from Tk80-110 in a week.

Local murikata onion has started to appear in the market and the price of onion declined for this reason, said Aman Hossain, a trader at Mohammadpur Kitchen Market.

He also said most of the vegetable price has declined in the market due to the huge supply of winter vegetable.

The price of Sonali chicken declined to Tk 280 per kg from Tk 320 in a week and layer chicken price declined to Tk 270-280 per kg from Tk 290-300 in a week. The price of broiler chicken also declined to Tk 160 per kg from Tk 180-190 in a week.

The price of farm eggs has declined to Tk 130 per dozen from Tk 140-145 in a week.

The government has increased sugar prices by Tk 13 per kg and fixed them at Tk 108 per kg. However, the price of sugar was Tk 115-120 per kg on the day.

The price of beans has declined to Tk 50-60 per kg from Tk 120, tomato declined to Tk 100 per kg from Tk 140-160, carrot declined to Tk 100 per kg from Tk 140 and pointed guard declined to Tk 40-50 per kg from Tk 60 in a week.

Cabbage and cauliflower price declined to Tk 40 per piece from Tk 60, bitter gourd declined to Tk 50 per kg from Tk 90 and green papaya declined to Tk 30 per kg from Tk 50.
