Responsible Behavior and Dialogue Needed to Ease Political Tensions Before Election
Opinion

The current political situation in the country is marked by intense conflict between different parties, which is causing concern for the people. Although there have been positive sentiments towards opposition groups, such as BNP, being given permission to hold rallies, there are also downsides. These rallies often result in transportation shutdowns on flimsy excuses, which causes suffering for both those attending the rally and the general public. Furthermore, the political class in the country is deeply divided, with Awami League and BNP engaging in bitter verbal attacks, which only exacerbate the growing unrest. To prevent potential bloodshed in the upcoming 12th parliamentary elections, it is imperative that the government acts urgently and takes responsibility. It is equally important for opposition voices to take a constructive stance in discussions about impartiality, activism, and transparent electoral processes that promote mutual understanding, rather than elevating their own interests. All concerned parties must exhibit responsible behaviour and avoid actions that incite disruptive confrontation. Constructive discussions around fundamental democratic principles would be beneficial for our democracy. It is essential that we embrace a pacifist perspective to create an ideal environment for elections.
