Report: One WhatsApp account can be used on two phones

WhatsApp is reportedly  working on a feature that would allow users to chat with the same account on multiple phones or on a phone and a tablet, the Verge reports citing popular feature leakster WABetaInfo.

The feature, spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.10.13 by WABetaInfo, showed that devices could sync recent messages, even though they’re end-to-end encrypted.

A screenshot of the interface while using WhatsApp on a second mobile was seen by the feature tipster which shows instructions to register the smartphone you're using as a "companion" by scanning a code with your primary phone - however there doesn't appear to be a code to scan right now, according to the Verge.

This new feature follows WhatsApp's announcement last month of multi-device support for Android and iOS users, which allowed people to log in to their WhatsApp account from four computers and one smartphone without requiring an active internet connection on the phone.

Both screens have been found in the Android version of the app, indicating that the feature will allow users to chat on a second phone or tablet. It's currently unknown whether the feature will be available on iOS when it launches, though precedence suggests it will, the Verge reported.

WABetaInfo, however, stated that the feature was still in development and not yet ready for widespread use, implying that the functionality may go through several modifications before being made user-friendly enough for the general public to connect their multiple phones. This also means that there is no estimate for when the features will be available.
