The country would celebrate a three-day 'National Fruit Fair 2022' across the country from June 17 to 18.
Agriculture Ministry organised the fair with the theme "Year-long Fruit Cultivation brings both Money and Nutrition'.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given the following messages on the occasion of 'National Fruit Fair 2022'.
The President, in his message, said as a result of multi-dimensional development activities of the present government, Bangladesh has become known as a role model for development in the world.
The agriculture sector has an important role to play in this progress of development as government is working tirelessly to ensure safe and nutritious food for all, he said.
"The importance of fruit and fruit trees in the country's economic development including protection of environment, supply of vitamins and minerals to the people is immense," the head of the state added.
In her message, the Prime Minister said fruits are natural sources of vitamin and minerals to meet the nutritional needs of the human body.
"Our soil and climate are very suitable for cultivating different kinds of fruits, moreover, the country has become self-sufficient in producing different fruits because of taking policies and practical steps timely by the agro-friendly Awami League government," she said.
"Besides, huge success has also come in the production of vegetables and fruits, now we are working to ensure safe and nutritious food for all," she added.
The Premier suggested adults to eat a moderate amount of fruits every day.
"As a result of the implementation of various agricultural policies of our government, today we are second in the world in jackfruit production, seventh in mango production and eighth in guava production, which has made Bangladesh known as a role model of agricultural production in the world," she further said.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hoped that the 'National Fruit Fair 2022' would play a positive role in keeping positive change going and giving the new generation a better idea about the fruits that produced in the country.
They urged everyone to come forward to plant more fruit trees.
