The country’s biggest Payra 1,320MW Thermal Power Plant in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali will re-start production from June 25 (Sunday).
Experts said with this production, the ongoing load shedding situation will ease in a few days.
Meanwhile, the plant was temporarily shut down from June 5 due to shortage of coal.
Engineer AM Khurshidul Alam, managing director of the Bangladesh-China Power Company Ltd (BCPCL), said the imported coals have already reached in the country and expected that the plant will resume its production from June 25.
He said a ship, carrying 40,000 metric tons of coal, from Indonesia has reached in Bangladesh on Thursday. It will take 48 to 72 hours to unload the coal at jetty of the power plant and to resume the production.
Meanwhile, the first unit of the power plant came into production on January 10, 2020 and the second unit on August 26 of the same year and since then the production was not stopped for a single say
Operation at one of the two units -- each with a capacity of 660 MW -- of the power plant was suspended at 12:15pm on June 5 while the other unit has been closed on May 25 due to shortage of coal.
