Tk 24 Lakh Worth of Goods, Including Liquor, Seized from Maitri Express.In a recent operation conducted by the patrol team-4 of the Directorate of Customs, Intelligence, and Investigation, goods valued at Tk 24 lakh were seized from the Maitri Express arriving at Dhaka Cantonment Railway Station. The operation took place on Tuesday, July 25, at 4:10 pm, based on confidential information received by the authorities.
During the raid, the team discovered 162 liters of foreign liquor hidden in several bags cleverly concealed under the seats of two staff rooms and above the false ceiling. Notably, no individuals were present at the time of the search. Additionally, the team recovered 34 pieces of sarees, 15 pieces of one-piece clothing, and 16 kg of cosmetics from one of the train compartments. Further, 27 liters of foreign liquor were also found in a locked room at the Cantonment Railway Station, along with a passenger holding an Indian passport.
Sanjida Khanam, Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence Directorate, released this information in a press release on Wednesday, July 26. The estimated market value of the seized products amounts to Tk 23 lakh 84 thousand. Following the legal process, these goods have been submitted to Dhaka Custom House.
