Khandker Golam Faruq, the rector of Police Staff College Bangladesh, has been made new commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Public Security Division under the home ministry issued a notification on Sunday in this regard.
The order will come into effect on October 29, it said.
Khandker Golam Faruq will replace Shafiqul Islam, who will go on retirement on October 30.
Faruq, who is the 12th BCS batch, is the son of the late Khandaker Haider Ali of Ghatandi Village at Bhuapur Upazila in Tangail.
He earlier served as the principal of Sarda Police Academy, deputy inspector general of Chattogram and Rangpur Ranges, additional commissioner of DMP, additional deputy inspector general of Dhaka Range and superintendent of police of Mymensingh, Kishoreganj, Jhalakathi and Thakurgaon.
On November 9, 2020, he was promoted to the additional inspector general of police.
