Khaleda deprived of treatment unfairly: Khasru

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is being deprived of treatment unfairly, said the party’s standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday.

“The government is not allowing Khaleda Zia to get treatment abroad despite the repeated requests of the doctors. From President to insignificant political leaders and workers are receiving treatments abroad. But Khaleda Zia is not being allowed to go abroad,” he told journalists following a meeting of the liaison committee of the party held at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office in the afternoon.

BNP’s liaison committee held the meeting with leaders of Ganatantrik Bam Oikya.

Amir Khasru said, “The doctors repeatedly said to take Khaleda Zia abroad, but the government is not paying any heed to it. Due to which Khaleda Zia has to receive treatment in the country.”

The only purpose of all these (activities of the government) is to continue the process of illegal seizure of power by keeping Khaleda Zia out of political activities, said the BNP leader.

He said, “They are scared because Khaleda Zia is the most popular leader of the country. She is not allowed in political activities because of the reason.”

On Saturday evening, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been admitted to Evercare Hospital at Basundhara in the capital for medical check-up. The 77-year-old former prime minister has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart, and eye problems.

About the meeting, Amir Khasru said the countrymen have taken to the streets today in the movement to oust the government. Discussion was held in the meeting to make the ongoing movement a success, he added.

Mentioning that there is no freedom of speech and voting rights, the BNP leader said the only way is to remove those who are in power by force.

He said, “Elections must be held under a neutral government. People will choose their representatives through elections. Then an elected government will be formed who will be accountable to the people.”

BNP vice chairman Barkatullah Bulu, joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain, Ganatantrik Bam Oikya coordinator Harun al-Rashid Khan, Social Democratic Party Convener Abul Kalam Azad, Samajtantrik Majdur Party general secretary Samsul Alam and Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal general secretary Harun Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting.
