A court in Chattogram on Tuesday sentenced Ershad Hossain, a former top leader of banned militant organization Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), to 20 years' rigorous imprisonment in a Explosive Act case filed in 2016.
Chattogram 4th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shoriful Alam Bhuiyaan pronounced the judgement in presence of the convict.
He was also fined Tk 20,000, in default, he will have to suffer one year more in jail.
Meanwhile, three other accused--Bulbul Ahmed Sarker, Md Sujan and Mahabubur Rahman-- were acquitted as charges were not proved.
Ershad Hossain alias Mamun was the commander of Chattogram district JMB. He is from Dinajpur.
The argument from both sides of the case ended on April 11.
Police arrested Ershad with explosives from a house in the Chattogram city on March 23, 2015 during a raid.
Later, a case was filed by police with Akber Shah Police Station.
